Tottenham fans react on Twitter to Toby Alderweireld comments
A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to react to where he touched on when he expects to leave Spurs.
Alderweireld only signed a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in December (via ). At the time, it looked set to put an end to the speculation surrounding his future which had seemingly continued for a number of years.

However, Alderweireld has already suggested when he expects to leave Spurs. Fortunately for Tottenham fans keen to see the Belgian stick around for some time, the centre-back insisted that he is planning to return to his home nation once his current deal has expired in 2023.
“I am thinking about returning to Belgium afterwards”,

“Especially for my children, who will then be 3 and 5 years old. My oldest child will then go to primary school and I want to give her a normal childhood. I want to send her to a permanent school for those 6 years of primary school without making her travel.”
And it appears that the large majority of Tottenham fans who have read the comments believe that there is nothing wrong with Alderweireld’s plans.
A couple have seemingly taken the comments badly. They seem to not be best pleased that he is thinking about when he will be leaving.
However, most can see where Alderweireld is coming from. And they feel that 2023 may be a good time for a move away to take place given the defender will be 34 when his current deal expires.
Here is what some of the Tottenham fans make of Alderweireld’s comments…
He knows he is nearing the end and wanting to finish in his own country is not unreasonable .

I don’t seee anything wrong with what he has said here !

Fair enough in my book… he’s been great for us but all good things come to an end

Can’t blame him. Most players return to their boyhood clubs to finish out their careers.

Good luck to the lad. He’ll be the right age.

What? His age he knows very well this is the last contract he’s getting at Spurs. Wants to go home when it’s finished. What’s wrong with that?

Why would anyone want to continue to play for us the way we’ve been?
