Tottenham fans react on Twitter to Eric Dier’s display at West Brom
It is fair to say that Eric Dier has come in for his fair share of criticism during his first 250 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur.
Dier seems to have found the going difficult in the more recent times. And there were times when supporters were – seemingly understandably – perplexed as to why Jose Mourinho persevered with the idea of using the England international at centre-back.

However, plenty of Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter in the wake of their victory over West Brom on Sunday to heap praise upon the 26-year-old – with many naming the defender as their man of the match.
It was a hard-fought win for Spurs. Harry Kane needed to score a late goal to give them the three points. They were not at their best. But they deserve plenty of credit for getting the victory.

And Dier’s performance was arguably one of the key reasons why Kane’s header did prove to be the winner.
He made an early block and then made a fantastic clearance off the line during the first-half. Had he not managed to get a touch on the ball, the home side would have been left with the easiest task to take the lead.
, Dier won six aerial duels. That tally was twice the number Toby Alderweireld managed. And it was the Belgian who was second highest for the visitors on that front.
‘A man transformed’
He also made seven clearances. Once again, he topped the tallies in that department.
The fans are obviously hoping that Dier can continue to impress on a consistent basis. But several have lauded his performance against the Baggies. And they are optimistic that he has turned a corner in recent weeks.
Here is what some of the supporters made of Dier’s performance…

Can’t believe how good Dier was today – that goal line headed clearance was crucial & so difficult to deal with cleanly.
José’s faith being repaid in spades

Dier has taken Jan Vertonghen’s centre-half spot and made it his own despite not being Poch’s first choice there while Jan and Toby were in their pomp.
He’s claimed it and is now our best centre-half as well as England’s. Endof.
