Tottenham fans react as Toby Alderweireld struggles to cope against Bayern Munich

Tottenham Hotspur were embarrassed in the Champions League on Tuesday night by German champions Bayern Munich in their own back yard – and Spurs fans are willing to let Toby Alderweireld leave after his performance.

Former Arsenal star Serge Ganbry scored four times as Bayern earned all three points with a 7-2 scoreline. Robert Lewandowski also scored twice, while Joshua Kimmich got his name on the score sheet.

Son Heung-min had opened the scoring for Spurs just after 10 minutes, but Bayern quickly came roaring back and a second-half Harry Kane penalty was merely a consolation. Mauricio Pochettino’s side capitualted towards the end of the match.

Mistakes from Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Winks and Serge Aurier cost Spurs throughout the clash, while Bayern’s superb finishing was too much to handle for Spurs – who struggled to deal with the pace of Niko Kovac’s side.

Alderweireld, 30, is in the final 12 months of his contract at Tottenham, and Spurs fans were previously desperate to keep the Belgian after becoming part of the furniture at Spurs – clocking up 168 appearances since joining in the summer of 2016.

But after Tuesday night, Spurs fans are willing to see Alderweireld’s contract expire next summer rather than attempting to convince him to sign a new deal. Many were shocked at his lack of pace on Twitter.
