Tottenham fans react as Toby Alderweireld departs
Tottenham waved goodbye to Toby Alderweireld yesterday. The centre-back has left to join Al-Duhail in Qatar for a fee in the region of £13 million.
The defender has been a loyal servant to Spurs over the years now the club have decided to cash in on the Belgian.
Alderweireld wasn’t at his very best last season and at 32-years-old perhaps this is a good time to look to get rid of him.
Alderweireld checked in at Tottenham in 2015 and he’s proved to be a stalwart ever since. He has made 236 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals.
He helped the club reach the Champions League Final during the 2018/19 campaign and he leaves the club with the utmost respect.
Given his occasionally sporadic form last season, now does look like a good time to let him leave the club, especially given the fee.
Tottenham are in the market for a couple of defenders this summer and Alderweireld departing will intensify that.

Although he wasn’t at his best last season, that hasn’t stopped supporters waxing lyrical about his quality over the years.
