Tottenham fans react as their 23-year-old misses out on his nation’s Euro 2020 squad
Tottenham’s Steven Bergwijn has been left out of the Dutch Euro 2020 squad – and some Spurs fans on Twitter have put a lot of the blame at the door of ex-manager Jose Mourinho.
The Netherlands has their 26-man squad to compete in this summer’s European Championship.
Unfortunately, Bergwijn is not part of the final group.
The lightning quick attacker has 12 senior international caps for his country but misses out for the latest major tournament.
Bergwijn, 23, didn’t make the 26-man squad selected by manager Frank de Boer. The left-winger has paid the price for a Spurs season where he scored once in 35 appearances.

A selection of Spurs supporters on social media have criticised Portuguese boss Mourinho for the role he’s played in Bergwijn’s disappointing season.
It’s true that he did end up dropping the wide man from the XI, but in truth the talented youngster was performing nowhere near the level he’s capable of when given a run of starts last December.
Missing out on Euro 2020 should ignite fire in Bergwijn
If Bergwijn is gutted right now about missing out on the Netherlands squad, he needs to bottle that feeling to use it as motivation next year.
He’s shown in glimpses his individual ability, and Spurs signed him from PSV Eindhoven due to his dynamism going forward.
It’s time to focus on next year where he needs to find better end product, as well as more consistency.
