Tottenham fans react as Liverpool linked with move for free agent goalkeeper

Liverpool goalkeeper coach John Achterberg has told Dutch outlet that the club has discussed the possibility of signing Michel Vorm, following his release from Tottenham Hotspur – and Spurs fans have reacted on Twitter.

Vorm, 35, was released by Tottenham at the end of last season after his contract expired. It saw the 15-time Netherlands international end a five-year spell at Spurs, in which he clocked up 47 appearances at the club.

In that time, the former Swansea City goalkeeper kept 17 clean sheets and conceded 47 goals. Now, he is on the look out for a new club in a bid to extend his professional career which began at Dutch Eredvisie side FC Utrecht.

Achterberg claimed that the signing of Vorm had been discussed by Liverpool. The coach also stated that having a third-choice goalkeeper of decent quality is not unneccessary – before complimenting Andy Lonergan’s experience in the Championship.

“A good third goalie at a top club is not a superfluous luxury, I have always said,” “The arrival of (Michel) Vorm has been discussed. Lonergan has more than 250 matches at Championship level and that is the sort of experience not to be underestimated.”

Liverpool have already brought in Adrian and Lonergan as back-up to Alisson, who suffered a calf injury in the first Premier League game of the season. Simon Mignolet was sold, returning to his home country with Club Brugge.

Tottenham fans reacted to the news that one of their direct Premier League title rivals have discussed signing a player that their club had let go just months before, with some hilariously claiming that “agent Vorm” would help Spurs win the league by moving to Anfield.
