Tottenham fans react as Leonardo Bonucci comments on Jose Mourinho and Spurs

Leonardo Bonucci has claimed he wants Juventus to avoid Tottenham Hotspur in the last 16 of the Champions League as he is wary of what a Jose Mourinho side can produce – and Spurs fans have reacted on Twitter.

Both Spurs and Juventus qualified for the knockout stages of the competition this week. Spurs came from 2-0 down to beat Olympiacos 4-2 in Mourinho’s second game in charge, while Juve beat Atletico Madrid 1-0 thanks to Paulo Dybala’s free kick.

Tottenham were knocked out of the Champions League by Juventus in 2017-18. Despite a 2-2 draw away in Turin in which Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen scored, Spurs suffered a 2-1 defeat at Wembley – losing in the round of 16.

Asked who he would want to face in the knockout stages of the Champions League, Italy defender and Juventus icon Bonucci stated that he would rather avoid Mourinho and Tottenham in the next round of the competition.

“I would like to avoid Tottenham,” “With the arrival of Mourinho, in some games he can give them something extra. But February and March are a long way off.

“In knockout games, without wanting to take anything away from [Mauricio] Pochettino, Mourinho knows how to drag something more out of his players.”

Juventus are in stunning form this season and are yet to lose under Maurizio Sarri. The former Napoli and Chelsea manager has guided his side to 15 wins in 18 league and cup matches, drawing against Lecce, Fiorentina and Atletico Madrid.

Tottenham fans have reacted on Twitter to the news that Bonucci is keen to avoid Mourinho and Spurs, and many are impressed at the stature in which Mourinho has brought to the club.
