Tottenham fans react as Gio Lo Celso shines overnight for Argentina against Peru
Giovani Lo Celso impressed once again for Argentina overnight, helping his country beat Peru 1-0 – and Tottenham fans have praised their midfielder.
Lo Celso, 25, has endured a tricky spell at Tottenham after joining the club initially on loan in 2019. A victim of his own versatility, at Spurs.
His ability to play out wide, as a 10, or as a deep-lying playmaker means the Argentina ace has failed to hold down one specific position in the side.
But at Argentina, he is first choice. In a three-man midfield, the ex-PSG man plays slightly ahead of Leandro Paredes, alongside Rodrigo De Paul.
The midfielder has clocked up 34 caps for his country, now – starting seven of Argentina’s last eight games. He was excellent against Peru, in a 1-0 win.
Ahead of Sunday’s clash against cash-rich Newcastle, Lo Celso and Cristian Romero face a race against time to return in time to play.
But judging by his display in the early hours of Friday morning, you would hope that Nuno Espirito Santo is willing to use the £27m signing

What are Tottenham fans saying as Lo Celso shines for Argentina?
Clearly, he is a top player. Given the confidence that he will start matches – and the same role week in, week out – he can be supremely effective.
At Tottenham, does he get that opportunity? Following the second half against Arsenal and the win over Villa, Spurs are likely to play a 4-2-3-1.
The midfield spot alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is up for grabs – but is Lo Celso defensive enough? Or is there more trust placed in Oliver Skipp.
Tottenham fans, regardless of tactics, were delighted by Lo Celso’s performance and many believe he deserves more game time at Spurs.
