Tottenham fans react as club reportedly targeting Wolfsburg target man Wout Weghorst

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in raiding Wolfsburg for 6ft 5in target man Wout Weghorst this summer as Jose Mourinho’s search for a striker continues despite the imminent signing of Gareth Bale – and Spurs fans have reacted on Twitter.

Spurs are expected to confirm the signings of both Bale and left-back Sergio Reguilon on Friday, with more additions still expected. A striker is still required, while Spurs are also expected to bring in a centre-back, to replace Jan Vertonghen.

Weghorst, who turned 28 in August, has caught Tottenham’s eye after shining in the German Bundesliga over the past two seasons. Clocking up 79 appearances for Wolfsburg in 2018-19 and 2019-20, Weghorst scored 38 and created 12 more.

Indeed, Callum Wilson joined Newcastle and Ollie Watkins joined Aston Villa – while a move for Danny Ings looks unlikely. Alex Sorloth is on his way to RB Leipzig, Patson Daka should stay at Salzburg. Arkadiusz Milik is likely to sign for Roma.

Spurs also missed out on Real Sociedad’s Willian Jose. Weghorst is the next-best option for Spurs, then, and they may find some success – with the report claiming Wolfsburg are open to selling him and will not stand in the way of his dream move.

They want a fee of £27million for Weghorst, who has three years remaining on his contract and Spurs fans have responded on Twitter. Many are of the opinion that he would be a good addition as a plan B behind Kane.
