Tottenham fans react as Borussia Dortmund complete deal for Thomas Meunier

Borussia Dortmund have announced they have completed the signing of Thomas Meunier from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer with his contract finishing at the end of the month – and Spurs fans have reacted on Twitter.

Meunier, 28, was one of the most high-profile players set to see their contracts expire this summer – with a number of Thomas Tuchel’s star players set to leave in the coming months.

The 40-time Belgium international joins Edinson Cavani, Thiago Silva, Layvin Kurzawa, Adil Aouchiche and Tanguy Kouassi in leaving the French champions for nothing. Spurs were strongly linked with a move.

 that Meunier had chosen to join Dortmund earlier this month, despite a ‘concrete offer’ from Jose Mourinho’s side. Dortmund confirmed on Thursday he had agreed a four-year deal.

Spurs are in desperate need of a right-back with Serge Aurier considered a liability and Kyle Walker-Peters deemed not good enough, hence his loan to Southampton. Meunier was an option for Mourinho.

The north Londoners have also been linked with a player that Meunier is about to replace, in the form of Real Madrid loanee Achraf Hakimi. Max Aarons and Youcef Atal have also been linked.

Spurs fans reacted to Dortmund nabbing Meunier’s signature on Twitter, and many are surprisingly relieved.
