Tottenham fans rave about Alfie Devine after scoring in 2-1 U23 defeat to Derby
Tottenham Hotspur’s Under-23 side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Derby County in Premier League 2 on Friday afternoon despite fielding a strong side against the Championship outfit – and Spurs fans have applauded 16-year-old Alfie Devine.
Spurs fielded a strong side that included four players from Thursday night’s bench against Ludogorets – in the form of Jack Clarke, Dennis Cirkin, Brandon Austin and Harvey White. Danny Rose also dropped into the reserve side for Spurs.
They came up against a strong side in Derby, who sit at the top of Premier League 2’s Division 1 – ahead of the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea, while Spurs sat in fifth before the match. Tottenham took the lead inside six minutes.’

Indeed, 16-year-old summer signing Devine netted from the first corner of the match – in what was his Under-23 debut for Tottenham, after initially playing six times for the Under-18’s following his £500,000 () move from Wigan.
But league leaders Derby came roaring back. Jahmal Hector-Ingham restored parity as a shot from Jack Stretton was parried into his path, tapping home. It was Stretton that scored the winner from the penalty spot in the second half.
Despite the defeat, Tottenham supporters were delighted with Devine’s performance and applauded the youngster for scoring in the Under-23 side despite being so young. Many believe they have a real talent on their hands.
