Tottenham fans laud Toby Alderweireld after emotional pre-Arsenal post

As North London prepares for derby-day, former Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has posted an emotional message to the Spurs fan base on Twitter.

The centre-back left Tottenham in the summer to sign for Middle East outfit Al-Duhail.

Alderweireld has played three games for his new club but he remains a cult hero among some Spurs supporters.

He was a popular member of the squad and never shirked putting in a shift during his time in North London.

Alderweireld signed for the club from Southampton in 2015. He made 236 appearances for the club, helping them reach the Champions League final during 2018/19.

The man with 116 caps for his country struck up a quality partnership with Jan Vertonghen and the Belgian duo delighted the club’s supporters.

Alderwiereld has taken to Twitter today to remember the moments he scored against Arsenal.

Today, the club must find a new hero as they look to bounce back after successive thrashings at the hands of Crystal Palace and Chelsea.

Nuno Espirito Santo won his first three games 1-0 but things have become more tricky in the last two games.

Spurs are conceding goals for fun and something will have to change against the Gunners today.

What have Tottenham fans said about Alderweireld?

Well, plenty have certainly enjoyed reminiscing about his goal in the North London derby.

It seems as though he’s still a popular figure among the fan base and they’ve been quick to jump on his Twitter post this morning.
