Tottenham fans discuss player’s last 16 display at Euro 2020 on Sunday
Toby Alderweireld produced an excellent performance in defence as Belgium knocked out Euro 2020 holders Portugal on Sunday night. Thorgan Hazard’s long-range strike proved to be the only goal of the game. Tottenham fans raved about Alderweireld, as he starred for Belgium.
Alderweireld, 32, has endured a tricky season at Tottenham. Many have suggested that perhaps the ex-Southampton defender is past his best. Some reports have even put his future in doubt. But on Sunday, he proved the doubters wrong with a near-perfect display against Portugal.
Eventually, it was Hazard’s strike that was the only goal of the game. Alderweireld was excellent – despite Roberto Martinez fielding a back three that boasted a combined age of more than 100. He lined up alongside ex-Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen, as well as Jan Vertonghen.

Tottenham fans have reacted on Twitter to the performance of Alderweireld on Sunday night. He was excellent, and many Spurs supporters have raved about their defender – with one fan claiming Ronaldo was “in his back pocket”.
