Tottenham fans discuss Carlos Vinicius form for PSV Eindhoven, want him back

It was a tricky spell for Carlos Vinicius at Tottenham. As many strikers have realised in the past, playing back-up to Harry Kane is always going to be difficult. No regular game time, a lack of momentum, means struggling in front of goal. But the Portuguese striker is now shining in the Netherlands.

Vinicius, 26, joined Tottenham on loan in the summer of 2020 from Benfica – but only played 22 times for Spurs. He scored 10 goals, but only one in nine Premier League appearances. The Rio-born striker, though, struggled to get a run of form going at Spurs, with many of the opinion he deserved more.

With a permanent clause in his loan deal worth around £40million, Tottenham decided to let him return to Benfica. He has since moved to the Netherlands, joining PSV Eindhoven on another loan. Vinicius has signed a two-year loan deal with PSV, with a permanent clause included.

It was a tricky start for Vinicius but with the Brazilian now up to speed with living in a new country, he is starting to show the kind of form Spurs might have hoped for. In 15 games for PSV, he has nine goal involvements – scoring four and creating five. His form in the last six games is incredible.

In those last six games, Vinicius has scored four and created four. That form has not been missed by Tottenham fans – especially after the Brazilian scored on Sunday during a 1-1 draw with Heerenveen. His form comes at a time when Spurs do not have cover, and Harry Kane is struggling.

Would Tottenham benefit from having Vinicius back at Spurs?

The striker has been excellent in the Netherlands in the last few weeks. But it must be remembered, that this form is in the Eredivisie – it is a massive step below the Premier League. But Vinicius just needed a consistent run of games during his time at Spurs – potentially a different manager in charge.

Under Jose Mourinho, Spurs were incredibly negative. To expect a striker, who had not been given regular game time, to then shine in a defensive side when used – was always going to be tough. There is no doubt that with Antonio Conte in charge, Vinicius would have a better chance of success.

With Spurs lacking any cover for Kane, other than youngster Dane Scarlett, Tottenham would jump at the chance to have Vinicius back at the club. Especially if it was a Vinicius that was in the form he is currently in. Could they bring him back in the coming weeks or months?

The only chance of Tottenham being able to bring Vinicius back to North London is if they go in for a permanent deal. They would have to agree a fee that convinces Benfica to cancel his PSV loan. Even then, the terms of the loan may prevent that. But Spurs fans are desperate to see him back.
