Tottenham fans desperate for club to sign Newcastle player after Sunday masterclass
Allan Saint-Maximin single handedly turned Sunday’s clash between Newcastle United and Burnley on its head on Sunday afternoon, coming off the bench to help the Toon win 2-1 – Tottenham Hotspur fans have want the French ace signed, on Twitter.
Saint-Maximin, 24, has been riddled with injury and a positive test this season – limiting the former Nice attacker to just 12 Premier League starts throughout the 2020-21 campaign. His absence, and Callum Wilson’s injury, have hampered Newcastle.
Lacking both players has seen Newcastle fall to 17th place. He last started a match for Newcastle at the end of February and has only managed to feature in two of his side’s last five league games, coming off the bench against Tottenham and then Burnley.
Introduced after 57 minutes with the scoreline reading 1-0 to Burnley thanks to Matej Vydra’s opener, Saint-Maximin was tasked with turning the game on its head. Wilson also entered the fray, but it was Saint-Maximin that made the difference.

Instantly, the Frenchman attacked the Burnley left and after reaching the byline and dazzling numerous Burnley players with his tricks – he laid off Jacob Murphy to smash home a brilliant effort into the far corner past Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
Not long later, it was 2-1. Picking the ball up from inside his own half, Saint-Maximin used his electric pace to spring forward from midfield as Burnley’s defence back-peddled. Going towards the right, he cut back on his left and scored.
Lashing an effort in at the near post, he wrong-footed Northern Ireland goalkeeper Peacock-Farrell and Newcastle held on to win 2-1. It was a crucial win for the Toon, as they now sit six clear of Fulham with a game in hand in 17th place.
But what Saint-Maximin’s display also did, was remind potential suitors what he is capable of. Last summer, the Tottenham were interested in signing Saint-Maximin – just one season after his £16.5million () move from Nice.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are in disarray after a 3-1 home defeat to second-placed Manchester United. The likes of Erik Lamela, Gareth Bale, Lucas Moura and Gio Lo Celso are out of form – with Bale and Lamela potentially not at the club next season.
Numerous Italian clubs are interested in Lamela, who is out of contract at the end of next season. Bale has already stated the plan is to return to Real Madrid on loan. So, Spurs need a winger – and Saint-Maximin could be perfect for Jose Mourinho.
Goals, assists, flair, speed and trickery – he offers everything that a winger should. But what makes him stand out ahead of other top-quality wingers, is that he changes his game with the flash of a boot. It took him five minutes to flip the scoreline on Sunday.
Tottenham fans have reacted to Saint-Maximin’s cameo role for Newcastle on Sunday and given that Spurs were linked with the Toon man back in the summer – many have urged their club to consider a move for the Frenchman in the coming months.
