Tottenham fans blast Toby Alderweireld for his latest display

Toby Alderweireld played in the crushing Tottenham defeat away to Brighton on Saturday – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter ripped into the defender for his contribution.

Spurs continued their disappointing start to the campaign by losing 3-0 at Brighton in the Premier League, as the pressure intensified following a 7-2 Champions League loss to Bayern Munich in midweek.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side once again struggled on the road and picked up zero points against a Brighton team that went into the contest in bad for too.

But the hosts were dominant to deserve the three points and Neal Maupay scored an early header to put them in front.

A selection of Spurs supporters on social media believe that Alderweireld was one of the biggest culprits at the back at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton’s attack is not renowned for having lots of goals in it, but they carved through the Spurs backline with ease on so many occasions and should have scored more than three.

Alderweireld has played every league minute so far this campaign and his individual form has dropped off.

The 30-year-old centre-back didn’t get close enough to Connolly for his second goal and allowed him to curl in his shot to the bottom corner.

He also looked untrustworthy in possession and is a shadow of the top defender he’s been in the past.
