Tottenham fans appreciate comments from Toby Alderweireld about Fulham win
Tottenham centre-back Toby Alderweireld admitted his side need to play much better despite winning yesterday against Fulham – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter love his comments.
Spurs battled to a 1-0 away win at Craven Cottage in the Premier League, with Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo credited with an own goal in the first half.
There were flashes of brilliance from Spurs going forward, especially in the opening 45 minutes, but Fulham can consider themselves unfortunate not to get anything from the game after their applied pressure and bad luck with a VAR handball decision.
Belgian defender Alderweireld was frank with assessment of the Spurs performance on Thursday:
“You have to be honest and say we have to play better, but in the end it’s an away game in the Premier League so it’s never going to be easy. Today we showed character,”

A selection of Spurs supporters on social media agree that overall the team’s display was underwhelming, which is highlighted by the fact they had just 40 per cent possession against a team sat 18th in the league table.
Alderweireld, who earns £150,000-a-week (), was kept busy defensively in the heart of the Spurs backline with a number of clearances.
It’s surely going to take much better than last night’s display for the North London club to fire themselves up the table into the Champions League positions.
Here are some Spurs fans discussing Alderweireld’s comments:

Toby at least is honest! Spurs struggled this evening! The team shows no sparkle or creativity! The defence still looks highly fragile! I pray to god that Mourinho doesn’t bring back Dier or Winks! That would be curtains for the season!
