Tottenham eyeing £9m Serie A attacker who rejected Arsenal as a teenager

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly set their sights on a Serie A attacking ace who rejected Arsenal as a teenager.

Italian outlet reported earlier this week that Spurs have sent scouts to watch Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson on multiple occasions.

According to , the 26-year-old rejected Arsenal and Liverpool as a youngster. Instead, he joined Dutch outfit Heerenveen.

Now, Tottenham appear to be on Gudmundsson’s case as the January transfer window looms ever closer, amid a downturn in form and a personnel crisis at Spurs.

Tottenham are said to have ‘sent emissaries on more than one occasion’ to watch him in action. They did so to evaluate the forward’s qualities ‘first-hand’.

For the time being, Gudmundsson seems committed to his club, claimed the SOS Fanta report.

However, Spurs may as well keep monitoring him and, if they like the look of him, see if they can turn his head with a big bid.

‘Skilful, technical, creative’

Gudmundsson progressed through the ranks of Dutch football before joining Genoa in 2022 for a reported £1million.

The Iceland international played a key role in their promotion from Serie B in 2022-23, scoring 11 goals and providing five assists in 36 games.

He has continued to develop and, this season, has caught the eye of scouts from the likes of Tottenham with seven goals and one assist from 14 outings.

Gudmundsson has reportedly also attracted interest from other Italian clubs, including Napoli, Roma and Lazio.

As per Football Transfers, Gudmundsson is a ‘skilful, technical, creative attacker who is an expert dribbler and twists and turns his way past opponents.

‘He is quick, especially over the first five meters and likes to try a through-pass.’

He’s a versatile player who has featured in central midfield, No. 10, both flanks, second striker and even centre-forward in his .

In summer, reported that Genoa want ‘no less than €10million’ (£9million) for Gudmundsson.
