Tottenham eyeing £30m ‘tireless runner’ likened to Bruno Guimaraes

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking to secure a hat-trick of signings in the January transfer window.

Spurs have hit the ground running this month, bolstering their attacking ranks with Timo Werner and signing Radu Dragusin for their defence.

Now, Tottenham are said to be in pursuit of a new midfielder this month as Ange Postecoglou looks to build on his good work in the first half of 2023/24.

According to Brazilian outlet , Spurs are eyeing Wolverhampton Wanderers ace Joao Gomes and have signalled that they’ll make a bid for him ‘very soon’.

Wolves signed the 22-year-old just 12 months ago, bringing him to Molineux from Flamengo in a reported £15million deal.

The report claims that they have made it clear they will not let him leave for anything under £30million.

If Tottenham manage to get their hands on Gomes, they’d be getting a very exciting Premier League–proven talent with his entire career ahead of him.

Gomes already has for Wolves under his belt, of which 29 have come in the English top flight.

The Rio de Janeiro-born ace has also made one senior Brazil matchday squad, for a friendly against Morocco last year.

Tottenham target Joao Gomes is ‘such a unique player’

The word ‘tenacious’ sums up Gomes’ style of play well. Although he has numerous key traits, he is especially great when it comes to tackling and defending.

Scouting outlet wrote last year: ‘Despite not having a big stature, Gomes manages to tackle the ball off his opponent largely without having to go to ground which is a phenomenal quality to possess because it often gives the ability to kickstart an attacking transition very quickly.’

They also compared him to N’Golo Kante, while Jacek Kulig of Football Talent Scout to Bruno Guimaraes and Gennaro Gattuso in 2021.

“Joao Gomes is such a unique player,” Kulig added on . “Fantastic mix of midfield destroyer, deep-lying playmaker and box-to-box midfielder.

“Tireless runner, amazing work rate and tenacity mixed with really good technique and playmaking skills. He always gives 100% on the pitch. Warrior.”

All in all, Gomes looks like a great shout for Tottenham. Let’s see what happens in the coming weeks.

Wolves’ hand will be quite strong in negotiations, but as they’re comfortably in mid-table, who knows, they may just be willing to cash in and double their money already.
