Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld injury: Belgian has his ‘fingers crossed’
Tottenham Hotspur’s excellent win over Manchester City did, unfortunately, come with a hidden cost.
Spurs won 2-0 to go top of the Premier League table but lost their leading centre-back Toby Alderweireld late in the game to what looks like a serious injury.
The Belgian took a free-kick and immediately went down holding his groin with a problem which Jose Mourinho has already confirmed looks set to keep him out of action for a while.

The player himself has now had his say on the problem, although did not give much away in a Twitter post-game.
The 31-year-old declared himself happy with the team’s performance against their rivals but then declared his disappointment at picking up an injury.
However, the defender also has his fingers crossed for a better diagnosis than has been initially feared.
Fantastic team performance/clean sheet/win today! Disappointed to pick up an injury, fingers crossed it’s not too bad. Thanks for all the messages 🙌

Tottenham fans will undoubtedly be hoping that the Belgian is not severely injured, given his importance to their current backline.
Eric Dier has been in great form in recent weeks but Davinson Sanchez has struggled for form with both club and country whilst Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga are still green at this level.
Tottenham fans will hope that they get to see Toby again before the end of the year.
