Tottenham dealt Diego Simeone blow as potential Jose Mourinho replacement in talks over new Atletico Madrid contract
According to , Atletico Madrid are in talks with Diego Simeone over a ne🍒w contract at the La Liga outfit, in a blow for Daniel Levy amid lin🤡ks to Tottenham Hotspur as a potential replacement for Jose Mourinho.
Atleti enter the final weekend of the se🃏ason topping the table in search of their first title since 2014, but ar﷽e open to extending Simeone’s reign regardless of their title bid.
Simeone is also keen to strike a deal to remain i♏n charge at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium beyond 2022, and it is expected that an agreement will soon be reached likely through to 2024.

Atleti are noted to be ‘delighted’ at S🐽imeone’s work given the complicated circumstances brought about by the pandemic, while leading the capital club to nine successive Champions Leagues and two finals since arriving in December 2011.
Simeone is already one of the best-paid managers in the world and any new deal could come as a blow to Tottenham Chairman Levy, after reports by previously suggested the Argentin🎐e would🐎 be open to succeeding Mourinho.
Spurs fired Mourinho last month () after 17 months in charge and elected to ap🐼point Ryan Mason as the club’s interim head coach until the end of the season, with a permanent replacement still to be hired.
TBR’s view:
Levy would likely have had to break the bank to buy Simeone out of the final year of his contract wi🎀th Atletico Madrid and appoint the 51-year-old as Mourinho’s successor, but the Argentine would have been an ideal candidate🎃 if he was indeed open to the Tottenham job.
Simeone has established Atleti as a persistent top side in Spain capꦦable of winning titles and competing in Europe, with his defensive organisation making the Colchoneros a challenge for any side to break down.
He is also lauded by those he works with, including former Spurs full-back Kieran Trippier who stated via quotes by last year: “Simeone – everyone feeds off him – he’s an unbelievable manager. I can’t real🔥ly explain how 🍸good it is here, it is just an unbelievable feeling.”
But that feeling will likely not be coming to north London anytime soon, as Lev❀y’s hunt for Mourinho’s successor con꧙tinues.
