Tottenham could still sign ‘world class’ free agent having already held talks with his representatives

Tottenham Hotspur have placed great emphasis on recruiting young talent this summer transfer window.

The North Londoners have signed four teenagers and added striker Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth later on in the window.

So, all things considered, it was a productive summer and yet, they still could sign a top-level defender even after the window has shut…

Tottenham could still sign Mats Hummels

Tottenham were linked with Mats Hummels earlier in the summer with some reports suggesting they held talks with his agent.

The Germany international departed Borussia Dortmund upon the expiry of his contract at the start of July and remains a free agent.

Perhaps Tottenham should renew their interest in the 35-year-old to provide more depth at centre-back – where they are a little light.

Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin are the only specialist centre-halves at the club, so if one of them gets injured, they’ll be in a spot of bother.

Ben Davies can operate in that role but he’s certainly not of the level of Hummels, who’s been labelled ‘world class’ per .

Roma pushing to sign Mats Hummels

If Spurs are to move for Hummels, they’ll need to act quickly.

Serie A side Roma are working on signing the former Dortmund man but the draw of the Premier League could see that deal hijacked.

A telling week or so lies ahead for the North Londoners, with the international break set to commence.
