Tottenham could sign one of world’s most promising defenders for £60m

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Piero Hincapie in recent months and speculation about the player is intensifying ahead of the January transfer window.

According to , the 21-year-old has been scouted by Spurs on numerous occasions over the past 12 months. However, Tottenham are not alone in pursuit of Hincapie.

Fabrizio Romano reported a few months ago that Liverpool were eyeing the Bayer Leverkusen star. And Ben Jacobs recently claimed that West Ham were also in the race.

Now, BILD journalist Christian Falk – writing on – has claimed that Hincapie has a release clause of around £60million.

The reporter name-dropped Liverpool and Newcastle as clubs that could reignite their interest in the Ecuador international. AC Milan and Roma are also apparently eyeing the player.

“Piero Hincapie could be an interesting option for potential suitors again. I’ve heard that he has a release clause of €70m,” he wrote.

“That’s why he could re-emerge on the table for Premier League clubs like Liverpool and Newcastle. We heard Milan and Roma are also interested in the Leverkusen player.”

Tottenham Hotspur could do with Piero Hincapie

Tottenham could certainly do with bolstering their defensive ranks in 2024 and increase their strength in depth.

While Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are top talents, we’ve seen how pear-shaped things can go when neither is available.

And while it’s good to see Ben Davies step up at left centre-back, he’s 30 years old. So Spurs could do with someone both first-team ready and for the future.

Hincapie, a 21-year-old Ecuador international, has made a real name for himself in the Bundesliga with Leverkusen.

The left-footer is a ‘‘ centre-back who the Bundesliga has deemed ‘one of the most promising defenders in football’, likening him to Lucas Hernandez.

Surely it’s only a matter of time before he leaves for a bigger club.Aand a resurgent Tottenham would certainly fit the bill.
