Tottenham could make last-minute move for ‘special’ Barcelona-linked player

Tottenham could reportedly make a late move to sign Swedish wonderkid Lucas Bergvall, though FC Barcelona still remain favourites.

The Djurgardens midfielder has emerged as one of the most exciting talents in all of Scandinavia after a breakout year in the Swedish top-flight in 2023, with Tottenham now reportedly interested in Bergvall.

And according to Sky Sports News reporter Michael Bridge, the north London club could attempt something in the coming days, even with Barcelona leading the race for Bergvall.

Bridge said : “The latest is that Spurs are interested. They are aware that Barcelona have been interested for a while, but I think Spurs realise that this is a player that is being watched by all the top teams.

“Spurs have declared their interest, as we’ve found out, over the last few days. There might be something on that over the next couple of days.

“That is one who would perhaps be looking towards the academy, but he is clearly extremely highly-rated considering the calibre of clubs that have been watching him for a while.”

Lauded by BeSoccer as a ‘special’ prospect, it’s understandable why Tottenham are making their move to sign Bergvall at this moment in the January transfer window.

The teenage midfielder is easily one of the most sought-after youngsters in all of Europe and a player many of the top sides would love to have on their books this year.

Yet for Tottenham, it might be too little too late to sign Bergvall, with Barcelona seemingly running away with the race to sign the Swedish youth international.

Indeed, Bergvall could have been an outstanding long-term signing for Tottenham, yet the north London side still look set to be beaten by Barcelona for the talented midfielder.
