Tottenham could compete with Real Madrid for ‘unbelievable’ signing this summer

Tottenham Hotspur could compete with the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United for the signing of Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite this summer.

That’s according to CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs, with the journalist sharing an update on Tottenham’s interest in the defender.

Spurs have already moved to bring in a fresh face at centre-back after landing Radu Dragusin from Genoa in January.

The 21-year-old is yet to start a game under Ange Postecoglou due to the recent returns of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

Yet, there remains the possibility that Tottenham look to bring in a fourth centre-back this summer and Jarrad Branthwaite is of interest.

Tottenham could compete with Real Madrid for Branthwaite

Speaking to , Jacobs shared what he knows about Tottenham’s interest in Branthwaite.

“I think that there is going to be a bidding war, in many ways, during the summer,” the journalist said. “I think Tottenham will be there, and we know that Real Madrid have looked in the past as well.

“It is true that bringing in at least one young centre-back is on Manchester United’s positional radar. Homegrown players are also a key focus, so Branthwaite ticks a lot of boxes, especially with him being a left-sided centre-back.”

Recent reports have claimed that Spurs are currently pushing more than their north London rivals Arsenal for Branthwaite. But with Real Madrid also keen on the 21-year-old, Tottenham will face stern competition for his signature.

The ‘unbelievable‘ defender has enjoyed an impressive campaign at Goodison Park and it’s no real surprise to see Europe’s biggest clubs linked with a move for him.

Whether or not he would be interested in a switch to north London could be up for debate.

It may be a tough gig for Postecoglou to sell given the fact that Branthwaite wouldn’t be guaranteed minutes due to Romero and Van de Ven’s blossoming partnership.

We also doubt Tottenham would splash out around to sign a player who wouldn’t be guaranteed to start.
