Tottenham should target Chilwell as Rose replacement

England were left disappointed by their failure to beat Croatia after a host of good chances. However, Gareth Southgate had reason to be encouraged by the team’s performance, especially in the second half.

Ben Chilwell performed well on his full England debut and he has put himself in line for further caps over the coming months. The left-back position was an area of weakness during the summer, but the emergence of the Leicester player could present the answer.

The 21-year-old completed three ball recoveries and finished the match with a pass success rate of 86%. He has the tools to perform in both halves of the pitch and the confidence to make an impact when he has the ball.

His emergence for England will increase the scrutiny on his club performances and bigger clubs may start to take an interest.

Tottenham are a side that could be in the market for a new left-back, given the uncertainty over Danny Rose’s future. The Spurs player was linked with a move away during the summer and Mauricio Pochettino may decide it is the right time for the two to part ways.

If that decision is made, Chilwell would be a perfect replacement. Pochettino has worked wonders with young English players and he could be the coach to develop the Leicester left-back into a top tier player.
