Tottenham can recall Leeds United youngster Jack Clarke in January, suggests report
Tottenham Hotspur have a recall option in the loan deal they agreed with Leeds United for Jack Clarke this summer. Tottenham agreed a deal worth £11 million for the winger this summer but agreed to send him back to Elland Road to continue his development.
Tottenham include January recall clauses as a standard practice among all loan deals leaving the club so should be able to bring the youngster back from Elland Road in the winter should they see fit.
If things continue the way they are, that is surely a scenario Tottenham will have to consider.
It was generally expected that Clarke would be playing regular first-team football at Leeds this season but that has not been the case so far.
With Jack Harrison, Pablo Hernandez, Helder Costa and Gjanni Alioski all present, Clarke has not even made the matchday squad for Leeds last three Championship games. He did play 70 minutes against Salford City in the EFL Cup but there is little doubt Tottenham would have been hoping for more.
If he continues to struggle to get minutes then Tottenham might have to consider recalling him in January and perhaps finding another loan spell for him in the Championship where first-team football is more likely.
However, it is important to remember that the Leeds United squad is thin. With Hernandez and Alioski prone to positional shifts, even injuries at central-midfield or left-back respectively could see Clarke move into the first-team picture yet again.
It is early days yet and hopefully the 18-year-old can force his way back into first-team contention. But if the situation is the same come January, Tottenham might have a tough decision to make.
