Tottenham are the ‘most likely’ club to sign £50m striker this summer as asking price drops

Tottenham Hotspur still have a number of positions which need addressing in this summer’s transfer window.

Wednesday night saw Ange Postecoglou‘s side put on a show against Hearts in their pre-season opener away to Hearts.

Spurs won in style at Tynecastle in a display which will have fans excited for things to come in the upcoming campaign.

However, it will not have papered over the cracks in Postecoglou’s squad with only one permanent signing brought through the doors so far this summer.

That could soon change, though, as Tottenham find themselves now leading the race to sign a £50m striker over the coming weeks.

Tottenham ‘most likely’ destination for £50m striker this summer

Perhaps the main question mark hovering over the Spurs squad now is what they will do when it comes to finding a striker.

Richarlison failed to really convince those at Spurs he is a reliable option having suffered multiple serious injuries over the campaign.

No significant replacement for Harry Kane has been brought in over the last year but Spurs continue to be linked with a host of names.

According to , Tottenham and West Ham are now the two most likely landing spots for Brentford’s Ivan Toney.

Brentford are said to find themselves in a sticky situation when it comes to the England international with interest not as high as they thought this summer.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are believed to have pulled from the race to sign the 28-year-old with the Bees initially keen to create a bidding war.

Ultimately, Thomas Franks’ side are now holding on to a player in the final year of his deal having already purchased his successor.

This is expected to see Brentford slash their valuation of Toney to less than £50m.

Will Lankshear making his claim for an opportunity

Wednesday night saw 19-year-old Will Lankshear make his debut for the first team having just inked a new long-term deal.

The youngster has seriously impressed in Wayne Burnett’s U21s side last season which has earned Lankshear interest from numerous EFL clubs.

It has even been suggested that, after signing his new deal, Lankshear was expected to move on a loan deal for the season.

Although he only played 22 minutes at Tynecastle, Lankshear was able to find the back of the net in a display which may well have made Postecoglou think.

After the game, Postecoglou waxed lyrical about Lankshear as he praised the 19-year-old for his work in training this summer.

“Will was good. We kind of brought him in this last week. He’s looked bright in training. He worked hard,” Postecoglou said.

“He’s had a very good year last year and it’s about rewarding him for that. It’s about coming in and making an impact. He did well and he took his goal well.”
