Tottenham are set to rival Real Madrid for ‘one of the world’s best defenders’
Tottenham Hotspur’s recruitment during Ange Postecoglou’s reign in charge has been near perfect.
James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Lucas Bergvall are just a few examples of Tottenham’s excellent dealings in the transfer market in recent times.
And, they are already plotting their next move in the market ahead, though, not for the January window but in fact for next summer.
It’s just come to light that they’re up against La Liga giants Real Madrid for his signature

Tottenham to rival Real Madrid for Jonathan Tah
According to German outlet , Tottenham Hotspur are showing an interest in Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah.
Tah is out of contract at the end of the season and is expected to depart on a free transfer, which has put a number of clubs on red alert.
Real Madrid are thought to be keeping an eye on his situation, as are Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Manchester United.
So evidently, if Spurs are to land his signature, they’ll have to fend off fierce competition for ‘one of the world’s best defenders’ – as labelled by Xavi Alonso ().
Jonathan David statistics vs Cristian Romero
Should Tah join Tottenham, he’ll likely be competing against Cristian Romero for a spot in Postecoglou’s line-up.
Here is how the two compare, statistics-wise.
Stats per 90 | Jonathan Tah | Cristian Romero |
Tackles | 0.64 | 1.98 |
Aerials won | 2.21 | 2.86 |
Blocks | 0.54 | 1.57 |
Interceptions | 0.92 | 1.26 |
Progressive passes | 4.77 | 5.46 |
Evidently, Romero’s statistics are superior to Tah’s, so it appears he’ll have a hard time displacing Tottenham’s vice-captain.
Perhaps he’ll get his opportunities in cup competitions initially.
