Tottenham are keeping tabs on ‘special’ £33m player who Man City admire

Tottenham Hotspur haven’t had the greatest start to the new Premier League season.

Ange Postecoglou’s men haven’t made their dominance count in games this term and that’s reflected by the table – as they languish in eighth place.

As such, pressure is starting to mount on Postecoglou, who gave a pretty frosty post-match interview after his side’s 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

With that said, behind the scenes, Tottenham’s recruitment staff are already keeping tabs on a talented midfielder in Italy ahead of the January transfer window to strengthen the squad.

Tottenham keeping tabs on Tijani Reijnders

AC Milan are looking to tie down midfield star Tijjani Reijnders to a new contract, amid interest emerging in the Dutch star.

Reijnders joined Milan in the summer of 2023 from AZ Alkmaar and he has excelled in Serie A since his arrival.

Indeed, Milan are so happy with him that they are ready to open talks over a new long-term deal but they are also doing so as they are aware that his performances have caught the attention of other clubs.

TBR Football understands that Manchester City have been watching him this season and have been hugely impressed.

We are told that Tottenham and Liverpool are both keeping checks on him too, but they were interested in Reijnders before he joined Milan last year.

Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are also maintaining a watching brief on Reijnders.

Reijnders statistics compared to Yves Bissouma

If Tottenham were to land Reijnders, he’d likely be competing against Yves Bissouma for a spot in Postecoglou’s midfield.

Here are how their statistics compare, as per .

Stats per 90Tijani ReijndersYves Bissouma
Non-penalty goals0.150.10
Assists0.080.00
Shot-creating actions3.861.69
Progressive carries2.931.20

Interestingly, Reijnders’ underlying statistics are superior to Bissouma’s, so perhaps he’d be an upgrade on the Mali international.
