Tottenham are a lesson to Chelsea on how to deal with two transferless windows

Chelsea have been hit with a transfer ban for the next two windows,

They that the Blues have been charged with a breach of the rules around players under the age of 18 from abroad.

The Stamford Bridge club will appeal the decision and claim that they have committed no wrongdoing but as it stands, they will not be able to bring anyone in during either the summer or next January.

That may be seen as a disaster for a club such as Chelsea who have made a habit of lavish spending during the last decade.

But Tottenham have not made any signings through choice for the last two windows and are still above Chelsea in the league table.

They have prioritized youth development and continuity over big-money arrivals, which has not been a flawless strategy but has propelled them to their most successful side of the modern era.

And Chelsea have a host of talented youngsters who have been cleaning up at youth level but do not get an opportunity; farmed out across Europe and often used as a revenue stream.

But now they have an exceptional opportunity to bring along their own talent – just like Spurs have – while maintaining progress in the league.
