Tottenham and Rangers midfield target Luca Connell signs Bolton extension and earns national call-up

Bolton Wanderers midfielder Luca Connell has just had 24 hours to remember. In this short space of time, he received two major accolades to stress just how talented he is.

On Monday, Connell received his first-ever national team call-up. The Republic of Ireland U19 starlet could now be set to make his senior debut, skipping the U21 age group altogether.

Mick McCarthy has included the Bolton youngster for the Boys in Green ahead of Euro 2020 qualifiers against Denmark and Gibraltar next month.

This is a testament to how well he has performed for Bolton this season. Despite the Trotters’ relegation, Connell’s class has made him a standout performer.

He has racked up 12 senior appearances, operating predominantly as a holding midfielder. Connell is also comfortable at left-back, making him a useful versatile option.

The 18-year-old faces a decisive summer. Tottenham Hotspur, Wolves, Everton and Norwich City are all eyeing a raid on cash-strapped Bolton for the youngster, .

Rangers are also hot in pursuit of Connell. that the Gers are in pole position to land the teenage talent.

But Bolton have tied him down to one more year. that an option has been taken up to extend his deal.

This is unlikely to prevent Connell from leaving this summer with Bolton needing the money and a host of clubs hot on his trail. But it shows how highly they rate their academy starlet as they are ensuring they can get as much money as possible for Connell.
