Tottenham and Liverpool reportedly want 27-year-old that Joachim Low labelled ‘underrated’
Tottenham have taken a step ahead of Liverpool in the race to sign German defender Matthias Ginter by reportedly making an offer for the Gladbach ace – a player that Germany manager Joachim Low labelled “undervalued” in 2020.
Ginter, 27, has clocked up a whopping 147 games in four seasons for Gladbach since joining the club in 2017 – having previously played more than 100 times for Borussia Dortmund. However, this summer, he will enter the last 12 months of his deal.
Having played more than 80 times for Freiburg too, Ginter is now being linked with a move away from his home country – with English clubs constantly said to be interested in him. Nothing has changed this summer, with both Spurs and Liverpool keen.
that Tottenham have made an offer to sign Ginter, while Liverpool are looking to rival their North London enemies. Germany manager Low is a big fan of Gladbach’s £14.5million () defender.

“I have the feeling that he’s undervalued by the public,” Löw is quoted as saying by the , back in 2020. “When he’s played with us, he’s always done his job well. As a coach, you know what to expect from him.
“He’s dependable and he’s able to do what we want him to do, which is to help build the play up from the back. He’s improved defensively too. He has a certain calmness about him, which is what makes him so solid, reliable and dependable.”
TBR’s view – Ginter would be a sensational signing
Tottenham need him so much more than Liverpool – and that is because of Ginter’s versatility. Spurs need additions in most areas this summer ahead of what could be a massive campaign, and Ginter covers three areas that require strengthening.
A new right-back is crucial – Serge Aurier is set to enter the last year of his deal and Matt Doherty has been poor. A centre-back is likely to be at the top of the list, and then perhaps slightly less so, Ginter can also operate in holding midfield.
Spurs need him more than Liverpool – and he would be a brilliant addition.
