Tottenham actually offered Wolves their homegrown player and cash to sign Pedro Neto

Tottenham might have missed out on Pedro Neto to Chelsea but it seems like they tried more than one routed to get Wolves to do business with them.

Neto has been linked with a move to Tottenham all summer but reports yesterday broke to say Chelsea had now swooped in to sign him.

Chelsea will pay around £52m to sign Neto from Wolves, with potential add-ons making it a club-record sale.

Of course, for Tottenham, it’s back to the drawing board and while they are set to unveil Dominic Solanke today, a new winger will be targets.

However, while Spurs fans might be shaking their heads at how Neto has ended up at Chelsea, it does seem the club did try a few creative ways to get the deal done.

And that included offering one of their home-grown stars in the deal.

Tottenham offered Oliver Skipp to Wolves before losing out to Chelsea for Pedro Neto

According to , Tottenham and Chelsea both proposed cash and player deals to Wolves at one stage to sign Pedro Neto.

And interestingly, Keen says that Tottenham actually offered up homegrown midfielder, Oliver Skipp, as part of the deal.

Tottenham might end up being glad they missed out on Neto

While Pedro Neto is a top young player and has lit up the Premier League at times, there is still a nagging doubt over his fitness and injuries.

Sure, if they are behind him, then Neto will fly for Chelsea and could well make a big difference to them like Cole Palmer has.

However, if he is injured again and continues to struggle, then Tottenham and others will be delighted they didn’t shell out the money – and a player – required.

Quite what this means for Oliver Skipp, remains to be seen.

But it’s clear Tottenham are happy for him to move on and to that degree, he might look to force a move before the end of the window, with Leicester among those linked.
