‘Flawless’: Tottenham player lauded by country’s media after Euro 2020 clash

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris enjoyed a pretty decent night as France beat Germany in their Euro 2020 opener on Tuesday.

A Mats Hummels own goal gave the World Champions a stirring start to the competition, with Lloris keeping a clean sheet.

The Tottenham stopper has come under fire during 2020/21. Some reports have even linked with a move away from Spurs this summer.

Last night he looked steady though and he’ll hope to add the European Championship to his World Cup winners medal.

Lloris is the France captain and he led by example between the posts, earning praise from Foot Mercato.

They produced a player ratings piece on their website shortly after the game and raved about his efforts.

“The captain of the Blues lived a very quiet first period. His defence protected him extremely well and apart from a Muller header, he didn’t have to work.

“The danger approached in the second half but he did well in the air without trembling when it came to gushing into the German feet.

“A flawless match for the goalkeeper.”

Lloris now leads France into two more group games against Portugal and Hungary.

After beating the Germans, Didier Deschamps’ men look a safe bet to qualify from the Euro 2020 group of death.

Good Lloris showing at Euro 2020 can benefit Tottenham

The France custodian has proved something of a stalwart during his time at Tottenham.

He checked in from Lyon in 2012 and has made 373 appearances for the North London-based club.

In recent years he has endured some eerie moments but at 34 he isn’t getting any younger.

A solid professional, enjoying a strong Euro 2020 could actually benefit Spurs in a number of ways.

If the new boss comes in and decides to keep him, he will return full of confidence.

Furthermore, if the new incumbent chooses to sell the star, a solid European Championship could add some millions onto his valuation.

Lloris is popular among the club’s supporters and his efforts won’t have gone unnoticed during last night’s victory.
