Top five summer signings for Barcelona feat. Arsenal and Chelsea stars
Héctor Bellerin – Arsenal
With Dani Alves already joining Juventus after his contract ended at Barcelona, the Catalan club now need a right-back to replace him. The Brazilian won countless trophies at the club, and was one of the first names on the team sheet. It will not be an easy job to replace someone like him.
However, there is an option that could be called “obvious”. Héctor Bellerin was at Barcelona’s academy in his youth before moving to Arsenal. He is a young Spanish right-back who has made the spot at Arsenal his own since his debut in 2014. He is probably the most Barcelona type signing available, in that he is now a Spanish international, young and was trained up in the Barca academy.
Is this a realistic signing? Barcelona have made a habit of signing back their academy players, for example Gerard Pique and Cesc Fabregas. They also have a relationship with Arsenal, with Fabregas, Alex Song, Alexis Sanchez and Thomas Vermaelen all making the switch one way or another to each club. This is different though.
Arsenal have a much stronger financial situation now, however, having not sold any of their key players since Robin Van Persie went to Manchester United. With the possibility of money, incomings and trophies coming to the Emirates, could Bellerin be content where he is? Or will the youngster be tempted to return to his boyhood club, and therefore force the Gunners to sell yet again?
