Top five ‘break-through’ youngsters at Euro 2016 feat. Manchester United and Real Madrid stars
George Williams
The Welsh national team have their own answer to Dele Alli in the form of winger George Williams. Williams came through MK Dons youth development alongside Alli and scored for their first team at the age of 16 before being snapped up by Fulham around four years ago.
He has not played at the top level yet after making appearances for MK Dons, Fulham and Gillingham, and this will possibly make him more of a back-up player than someone that will be at the forefront of Chris Coleman’s mind.
The 20-year-old has suffered some serious injuries already in his career and this could hinder his future potential. While it does not seem plausible that a big side will come in for him if he performs, a few impressive games at this tournament may allow him to break into the Fulham squad or into another team at a similar level.
If Wales can impress at the Euros, then perhaps a few of their more lesser-known players will gain more attention, but Williams is perhaps the brightest young talent in the squad at this current time.
Lucas Vasquez
Lucas Vazquez – the substitute who failed to actually impress in the Champions League final in Milan – is the oldest player to be mentioned here at 24-years-old. In this past season, he has changed from a Madrid outcast to a relative mainstay in Zinedine Zidane’s regime and through this, has caught the attention of clubs around the world.
Vazquez should in theory be ready to perform at the tournament, but he is uncapped and untested on the international stage. Furthermore, with bigger names in the squad it is unlikely that he will actually get a chance to showcase himself at the tournament.
If he does get the chance, he will need to grasp it with both hands as Real Madrid are a constantly evolving side that will easily replace him if he fails to deliver both internationally and domestically.
The Spanish forward is already well into his development as a player and if he manages to get game time in France, he may be able to break into the squad regularly and make sure that he continues to be an integral part of the Real Madrid set up for years to come.
