Top European manager hails 18-year-old who Arsenal reportedly were hoping to sign

Massimiliano Allegri has now lauded the potential of centre-back Dean Huijsen, a player often linked with Arsenal in the past.

Allegri was complimenting Huijsen on the back of his Juventus debut, a substitute appearance in a 1-0 win over AC Milan.

Huijsen was introduced in the 78th minute for Federico Gatti at centre-back, and helped ensure the victory.

Speaking via , Allegri said the Arsenal linked 18-year-old had huge potential.

: “He has special skills, he can become a really big player.”

Arsenal were with a move for Huijsen last year when his rich potential was starting to become clear.

However, it was revealed at a similar time that the Dutch defender, labelled ‘’ was intent on staying at Juve.

Of course, Arsenal do now have plenty of options at centre-back, so this would have been a look to the future.

And perhaps that is now the next stage of Arsenal’s trajectory given their squad does now look more complete.

That being said, Arsenal have today been linked with another Juventus star in Dusan Vlahovic.

Arsenal have probably missed their chance to sign Huijsen given Allegri’s comments

It will certainly be interesting to see where Mikel Arteta targets the next big upgrades to his Arsenal squad.

Whilst there’s the need to stay on the pulse of all of Europe’s best young talents, Arsenal do need to address some situations in their playing staff.

And that may be why a move for Huijsen, a player Allegri clearly regards well, never seemed to materialise for Arsenal.

Instead, The Gunners may pursue their interest in both Pedro Neto and Ivan Toney in January.

Alan Shearer has recently aired his concerns over the finishing of Gabriel Jesus.

And during a spell in which both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli were injured, Arsenal looked short of an elite winger.

Reiss Nelson has been sat in reserve, but it seems Arteta was reluctant to start him in important games.

The likes of Huijsen would be an exciting signing for Arsenal, but there’s clearly more important issues to address first.
