‘Top class’: Jamie Carragher hails former Liverpool prodigy reportedly close to Spurs move
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has described reported Tottenham Hotspur target and former Anfield academy player Alfie Devine as a “top class” player.
According to the , Spurs hope to compete the deal to sign the 15-year-old Wigan Athletic midfielder by the end of the weekend.
Tottenham reportedly had a £500,000 deal rebuffed earlier this week but talks are said to be back underway, with a deal likely.

Devine was previously with Liverpool, going on tours of Europe with the academy, and after being released by the Reds, he took four months out to reflect on his future ().
He eventually joined Wigan, where he has done so well that he featured for the Latics’ Under-23s this season, and has been capped for England at Under-16 level.
Earlier this month, however, Wigan suddenly entered administration, just weeks after the club changed owners and, according to the , need to sell to help fund players’ wages.
Carragher, whose son James plays for the Latics’ academy and came through the ranks like Devine, praised the youngster and also criticised the club’s owners for the situation they’re in.
Watched Alfie for a couple years & he’s top class. Just gutted Wigan couldn’t keep hold of him after the great work they’ve put into developing him & all their other prospects. Absolute disgrace what them owners have done!

Tottenham have also reportedly expressed interest in Wigan’s Joe Gelhardt and Jensen Weir, though the latter is apparently keen on joining Brighton.
