‘Top class’: Ally McCoist gives credit to one Rangers star despite last night’s defeat

Ally McCoist credited Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos for his performance last night.

Steven Gerrard’s side suffered huge disappointment on Tuesday night after being dumped out in the Champions League qualifiers by Swedish opposition Malmo.

The Gers were beaten 2-1 at Ibrox by Malmo, who played the second half with a man less after a red card.

It means the Scottish champions suffered a 4-2 loss on aggregate to Malmo over the two legs, so they drop down to the Europa League qualifiers.

Morelos, who put his side ahead on the night with a goal, looked the most threatening for the Scottish hosts. The 25-year-old’s goal came at the back post after he got on the end of a Ryan Kent cross.

It was a massively disappointing evening for Rangers, but McCoist singled out the South American for some praise.

“Morelos I thought he was absolutely top class for 45 minutes last night,” McCoist told .

Rangers ace Alfredo Morelos deserves Champions League shot

Morelos played last night like a player desperate to be in the Champions League group stages this season, but in the end not enough of his teammates were on their A-game.

The fiery centre-forward can be guilty of inconsistent streaks at time. However, it’s hard to argue with how much ability he’s got. He’s scored 95 goals in 184 appearances for the Light Blues.

It’s going to be interesting to see where the striker’s immediate future lies because he’s good enough to play on the elite stage.

Morelos still has two years left on his contract with the Gers. claims the club will sell him if the right priced offer comes in.
