‘Top bloke’: Some Villa fans have ‘a lot of respect’ for UCL winner’s high praise of Smith
John Terry has been full of praise for Aston Villa manager Dean Smith this week in the build-up to the Villains clash against Chelsea.
Speaking to Sky Sports News , the former Villa assistant coach praised his former boss. The duo spent two seasons together on the touchline as Smith guided the Birmingham club back to the Premier League.
Terry retired as a player with Villa to join the coaching staff. And the UEFA Champions League winner left a big impact with the club. With multiple players noting the England defender as a reason why they developed at the club.

Indeed, Terry is now a free agent after leaving the club in the summer to seek a number one job somewhere. And there is no doubt that the former Villa coach will be watching this weekend’s Saturday clash.
Smith’s side will travel to the English capital to face Chelsea, who will be eager to return to winning ways after drawing 1-1 with Liverpool before the international break.

With no Emi Martinez or Emi Buendia, though, Villa face a tall task in getting something against the Blues. But for supporters on social media, they were buzzing with what Terry had to say about Smith.
Here’s what some fans had to say on Twitter about Terry’s praise for the Villa boss ahead of their clash against Chelsea…
Legend. Wish he was still at villa his knowledge and experience more at have been good for the defence

Yeah absolutely and I think he handled himself perfectly from his first day to his last. Top professional and still feels surreal that he was part of the club.

Top bloke terry. Sad to see him go but it makes sense he can’t be a number 2 forever

Got a lot of respect for Terry not jumping in at the deep end when it comes to management. Taken his time, got his full coaching licenses, spent a good deal of time in a coaching setup that's gone from strength to strength. Wish him all the best wherever he ends up!

A great servant to the club, we have him to thank for such a strong defence.

Well done, JT. I know we gave you stick when you played for Chelsea but you did a great job for us.
