Tony Mowbray expresses sympathy for Leeds and Liverpool over season uncertainty
Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray has expressed some sympathy for the likes of Leeds United and Liverpool and insisted that the football authorities need to make sure that the season finishes, .
It remains to be seen what the future holds with the campaign already in unprecedented territory. Of course, a number of clubs will hope that the season will get going again in the near future.
The Reds are on the cusp of winning their first Premier League title. Meanwhile, Leeds and West Bromwich Albion are looking to ensure that they will be playing at English football’s top table next term.
And Mowbray has insisted that this term must be completed – suggesting that he cannot imagine how agonising it would be for the likes of Leeds and Liverpool if the campaign was voided.
“It doesn’t even bear thinking about really of finishing a season without finishing the season, if that makes sense,” .
“If you were a Leeds United player, member of staff or supporter, or West Bromwich Albion, or even Norwich City or Liverpool, it doesn’t bear thinking about.
“If you’re sitting top of a table, ready for promotion, and it gets pulled away from you, that’s a really, really difficult thing. Liverpool have waited 30 years to win a league title, so it’s really not worth thinking about in my opinion. You have to find a way to play the games.”
TBR View – Voiding season should be last resort
Of course, Blackburn could benefit from the season continuing. Rovers are 10th in the table and find themselves just three points off the play-off places.
Mowbray will, obviously, be aware of that. But that takes nothing away from the fact that voiding the season will surely cause all sorts of problems.
It may be a measure that cannot be completely taken off the table given everything going on right now. But it surely has to be a last resort at best.
