Tony Dorigo praises ‘intimidating’ 24-year-old Leeds star

Tony Dorigo has admitted he’s really impressed by the physicality of Leeds United ace Robin Koch.

Koch, who earns £33,000-a-week (), only completed a move to Elland Road last summer from Freiburg.

The German defender started well at the beginning of the campaign, but he missed a large chunk of time due to a knee injury and has made just 18 appearances for the Yorkshire giants so far.

He’s a centre-back that has had to be patient in the past couple of months since returning from injury, as there is plenty of competition within the squad for the defensive positions.

However, his versatility came in handy last weekend with manager Marcelo Bielsa starting him in the deeper midfield role during the 2-0 loss away to Brighton.

Dorigo claimed that Koch is an “intimidating” figure that adds some extra steel to the Leeds XI.

“I thought Robin Koch actually played quite well [against Brighton] but didn’t quite have the ability to get it forward quickly enough like Kalvin [Phillips] does,” Dorigo told .

“What I like about Robin is he’s strong. Physically I think he’s quite intimidating. He’s up there from set pieces being important.”

TBR’s View:

Koch will have been glad for some minutes against Brighton, and the way he can slot into midfield is typical of a Bielsa-type player.

If he can break into the starting XI next season, is the big question fans are asking themselves.

The Germany international is in competition with teammates Diego Llorente, Pascal Struijk and club captain for the two starting centre-half positions.

He’s certainly a powerhouse who’s suited to the Premier League with his strength, and he just needs a slice of luck next season to avoid any kind of injury.
