Tony Dorigo has hailed ‘excellent’ Leeds 25-year-old star
Tony Dorigo has given a glowing verdict on the ability of Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips, who he claims has been in “superb” form recently.
Leeds, who are currently ninth in the Premier League table, managed to negotiate an extremely tough run of fixtures during April successfully.
The Whites beat Sheffield United and Manchester City, as well as hold Liverpool and Manchester United to draws.
Phillips, who earns £35,000-a-week (), has looked at his very best in recent games in the heart of the team’s midfield.
The 25-year-old deep-lying playmaker has shown why most people expect him to be part of England’s squad this summer in the European Championships, with eye-catching performances against top opposition.
He’s had some doubters, but the defensive midfielder is proving he belongs at Premier League level.
Dorigo has hailed the Leeds midfielder ahead of this weekend’s game with Brighton. In particular, he picked out his display against Man City earlier in April.
“He’s been superb recently,” Dorigo told .
“I must admit, when we were down to 10 men at Manchester City, I thought he was on the pitch twice. I thought there were two Kalvin Phillips’ out there because he was everywhere.
TBR’s View:
Apart from his goalscoring, it’s difficult to pick out an area of Phillips’ game that is weak.
He runs games at the base of midfield for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, and has so much respect from teammates around him.
The system doesn’t quite look the same whenever he’s missing, and it must be so rewarding for the club to have a Leeds-born ace as a real talisman in their first team.
