Tony Cottee urges patience with Pablo Fornals at West Ham
Tony Cottee believes that West Ham have got to be patient with Pablo Fornals after a disappointing start to life at the London Stadium.
The Hammers signed the attacking midfielder for £24million () in the summer from Villarreal and he left La Liga a highly-rated talent.
But the 23-year-old has started slowly for Manuel Pellegrini’s team and is yet to get anywhere near his best in English football.
The left-footed playmaker has just one goal in his 12 games across all competitions so far and that came against League Two opposition Newport County in the Carabao Cup.
Ex-West Ham forward Cottee is underwhelmed with the impact of Fornals so far, but wants him to be given time.
“I think everyone’s got to be patient with Pablo. It’s been tough for him, but when he gets these opportunities, you’ve got to try and take them,”
“You just hope that maybe he’ll have a good game, maybe get a goal or something and then that’ll kick start his career but so far it’s been a really difficult start for him.”

TBR’s View:
There is no doubting that Fornals is a special talent with great technical ability and fans can just hope that he begins to find some momentum.
He dazzled in the summer as Spain’s youth team won the European Under-21s Championship and there is still plenty of time for him to prove £24million was a bargain.
His first job has to be making an impact whenever on the pitch for West Ham and breaking into Pellegrini’s best XI, as at the moment he’s often on the bench and struggling to impact games.
