Tony Cottee singles out Everton maestro West Ham must beware

West Ham United take on Everton in the Premier League this weekend, and both sides are looking to bounce back from defeat last time out.

The Hammers lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace at the London Stadium, while the Toffees were beaten 1-0 by Burnley – their fourth league defeat in a row.

The pressure is mounting on Everton boss Marco Silva, whose side have slipped into the relegation zone as a result of their poor form.

West Ham, despite the loss to the Eagles, are going well in eighth and will smell blood in the form of the struggling Blues.

Former striker Tony Cottee, who represented both clubs, has been looking ahead to the game , and believes there’s one man in particular the Irons need to be wary of.

He said: “Andre Gomes is being tipped to come back into the side and he has the ability to cause problems if given time and space on the ball, but away from home this season we have looked very strong and controlled in that area.”

TBR’s view – Noble and Rice must shut Gomes down

If Gomes’ fitness is up to scratch, then there is no reason why he should not be in Silva’s starting XI on Saturday.

Everton have lacked creativity in recent weeks, with Gylfi Sigurdsson’s form a big disappointment.

Gomes – capped 29 times by Portugal – has the ability to hurt teams from slightly deeper with his wonderful array of passing and ability to glide forward with the ball at his feet.

It will be on the likes of Declan Rice and Mark Noble to stop the midfield metronome from playing.
