Tony Cottee defends West Ham’s club-record signing Sebastien Haller
Former West Ham United striker Tony Cottee reckons Sebastien Haller’s struggles in English football have boiled down to him not getting adequate service and support.
The Frenchman arrived at the club last summer for a reported £45 million from Eintracht Frankfurt (), and there was plenty of hype after he hit 20 goals in all competitions in 2018/19.
It just hasn’t happened for the star this season, and he has a disappointing return of six goals across all competitions so far.
In the eyes of Cottee though, it isn’t entirely his fault.
He said (): “There is an argument the service at times hasn’t been brilliant, have they played enough [balls into the box]?
“And they’ve not really played someone alongside him. When Antonio played up front with him, he got a little bit of support.
“So there is an argument for that and he will get better, he is settling into the club.”
Haller was surprisingly left as an unused substitute against Manchester City in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

Right now West Ham are in serious trouble.
They are heading towards relegation unless something gives, and the club desperately need Haller to find some form.
For starters he needs to be playing every game, not being left on the bench.
He may have been somewhat underwhelming in his first season, but to spend that fortune and then not play him is asking for trouble.
Moyes needs to start Haller and ensure he doesn’t go missing in games by being isolated – which was an issue under Manuel Pellegrini.
