Tony Cascarino says Arsenal star was ‘by far’ his country’s best player at Euro 2024

Tony Cascarino has praised one Arsenal star’s showing at Euro 2024, insisting that he was his country’s best player at the tournament by some distance.

Arsenal fans will be hoping that a number of their players have got their feet up right now after their season extended into the summer, with many on international duty at Euro 2024.

Of course, the likes of Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka went all the way to the final, while both Aaron Ramsdale and David Raya wꦆere also in Berlin on Sunday as Spain edg💃ed England.

One of the surprises of the tournament was how poor Didier꧑ Deschamps’ France team were, with Les Bleus going out in the semi-final having struggled to get out of second gear throughout the competition. Both of their wins in 90 minutes in the tournament came from own goals.

Certainly, Kylian Mbappé was not at his best, possibly due to injury. But speaking to , Tony Cascarino suggested that one player can hold his head up high, with William Saliba named in his team of the tournament.

“By far the best player in a disappointing France team. Not a certain starter before the tournament but forged a fine partnership with Dayot Upamecano,” he said.

William Saliba takes big step in his international career

It has baffled Arsenal fans that Deschamps has generally been reluctant to rely on Saliba, even with the likes of Ibrahima Konate and Dayot Upa💃mecano in the ranks. Ultimately, Saliba has been the Premier League’s best defender over the last two years.

Konate has struggled with injury, while Upamecano has had a pre🐓tty underwhelming time at Bayern Munich. Saliba meanwhile, just seems to stun people with the fact that he is still only 23.

The worr🐓y for Arsenal supporters will be that much of t꧑he spine of their side has been away on international duty, which may not help their chances of going one better after two years of finishing second in the Premier League.

Certainly, the sooner the likes of Saliba, Rice and Saka are back 💃up to full speed for the Gunners, the better.
