Tony Cascarino identifies ‘terrible’ area of West Ham’s draw against Sheffield United

that West Ham United were “terrible” from corners and set-pieces on Saturday afternoon, after failing to beat newly-promoted Sheffield United at the London Stadium.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side took the lead through Robert Snodgrass following a tidy finish past Dean Henderson, after being played through on goal by Andriy Yarmolenko. But the Hammers could not hold onto their lead.

Lys Mousset equalised for the Blades with a solid finish past West Ham goalkeeper Roberto. The Hammers dominated possession, having more than 60% of the ball and even having 12 shots – four of which were on goal.

But the three points failed to materialise and Cascarino has hammered the Hammers players for failing to have an impact from set-pieces, and most specifically, corners. West Ham had 10 corners, but Cascarino reckons not one was a good delivery.

“West Ham were terrible [from corners],” . “They could not have set a worse example for how to be a threat from corners. They had ten of them, none of which troubled Sheffield United. Every delivery was poor. You will not go anywhere in this league without good set pieces.”

With Manchester United and Arsenal struggling, West Ham will be one of a handful of sides that are hopeful of breaking into the top six of the Premier league – along with the likes of Leicester City, Wolves, Crystal Palace and Everton.

The Hammers need to be at the best of their ability. They need Sebastien Haller to score plenty, Lukasz Fabianski to recover and Felipe Anderson to replicate his form last term. But they also needs goals from corners.

Giving themselves a chance includes getting corners right, and Pellegrini must work on them on the training ground.
