Tony Adams hails ‘absolutely phenomenal’ Arsenal star David Luiz

Former Arsenal defender Tony Adams has lavished praised on David Luiz after his stellar FA Cup display against Manchester City at Wembley.

The Brazilian put in a mammoth performance for the Gunners to help them to a 2-0 to reach the final and knock the holders out.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s brace has seen him grab many of the headlines, but Luiz came in for huge praise from fans on social media for his contributions.

Luiz seemed to be everywhere making blocks and clearances, and it was a far cry away from his nightmare at the Etihad Stadium in the club’s first game back after the restart.

Speaking about the South American, : “I’ve got to say, David Luiz was absolutely phenomenal. I’ve been very critical of him recently and I think a lot of people have.

“Give credit where credit’s due – he had the bit between his teeth today.

“I’m thinking it [no crowd] may have helped him because in recent weeks I think the Arsenal crowd would have been on his back and I don’t know how he would have reacted to that.”

TBR’s View – Luiz allowed to flourish?

Crowd energy can undoubtedly sometimes have a negative impact on players, so perhaps there is a little something in Adams’ suggestion.

That said, Luiz – who earns £125,000-a-week at the Emirates () – is an experienced player and certainly comes across in interviews like he doesn’t let things like that affect him. At least, it seems he doesn’t consciously let it affect him.

Whatever is behind the upturn, Arsenal fans will certainly be hoping to see the 33-year-old maintain this kind of form for as long as possible.
